How customers find businesses now
A business owner in Johor Bahru looking for an inventory system might search Google, check Google Maps, or simply ask an AI assistant "who builds custom ERP systems in Malaysia?". Each of these reads your website differently, but they reward the same things: clear answers, clear structure and consistent facts.
- SEO (search engine optimisation) helps your pages rank in search results.
- AEO (answer engine optimisation) helps your text become the quoted answer in featured snippets, Google’s AI Overviews and voice assistants.
- GEO (generative engine optimisation) helps AI assistants understand who you are well enough to mention you in their recommendations.

SEO basics that still matter
- One page per service. "Custom ERP system" and "Website design" are different searches. Each deserves its own page, title and description.
- Write titles for people. Say what you do and where: "Custom ERP System Development in Malaysia" tells both Google and the reader what to expect.
- Fast and mobile-first. Most visitors arrive on a phone. Compress images, avoid heavy plugins and test on a mid-range phone, not just your office monitor.
- Google Business Profile. Claim it, choose accurate categories and keep hours, phone and photos current.
- Show real work. Case studies with real screens and outcomes earn trust from people and links from other sites.
AEO: answer the question first
Answer engines quote the passage that answers a question most directly. Structure pages so that passage exists:
- Use the customer’s question as a heading, for example "How long does it take to build a system?".
- Answer it in the first two or three sentences under the heading, then add detail.
- Add an FAQ section for the questions you hear on every sales call, and mark it up with FAQ schema.
- Prefer plain words over slogans. "We build inventory systems for factories" is quotable; "We empower synergy" is not.
GEO: make it easy for AI to vouch for you
AI assistants combine information from many sources. They mention businesses they can describe with confidence. Help them:
- Keep your facts identical everywhere: business name, address, phone number, services and areas served on your website, Google Business Profile and directories.
- Say who, what and where in one sentence on your home and about pages.
- Use structured data (Organization, Service, FAQ and Article schema) so machines do not have to guess.
- Decide on AI crawlers deliberately. Your robots.txt controls whether AI crawlers may read your site. If you want to be recommended, do not block them by accident.
- Consider an llms.txt file: an emerging, optional convention that gives AI tools a short plain-text summary of your business and key pages.
The Malaysia-wide mistake
Many Malaysian businesses serve customers in several states but only mention their own city. If you deliver to Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor Bahru and Melaka, say so in plain text, ideally with a page that explains how you serve customers there. Search engines and AI tools cannot recommend you for places you never mention.
How to know it is working
Set up Google Search Console to see which searches show your pages and which get clicks. Track enquiries by source in your contact form or WhatsApp greeting. Ask new customers how they found you, including "an AI assistant suggested you", which is becoming a real answer.
This website follows the same checklist: one page per service, short answers at the top, FAQ and business schema, a page for the areas we serve, and an llms.txt file.
Frequently asked questions
How long does SEO take to show results?
Usually months rather than weeks. Technical fixes and clearer pages can help quickly, but rankings for competitive searches build over time as search engines recrawl your site and other sites link to it.
Do I need a blog for SEO?
Not strictly, but a blog is the easiest way to answer the questions customers ask before they buy. Each useful article is another page that can rank, be quoted in answers and be shared.
Is llms.txt required for AI search?
No. It is an optional, emerging convention. Clear pages, consistent business facts and structured data matter far more. An llms.txt file is a small extra that some AI tools may read.
